October 2019 - What's in the Box?

P3/4T are continuing to enjoy their 'What's in the box?' daily activity and are rising to the challenge of trying to find a unique object at home to hide inside on their chosen day. We are developing our listening and talking skills, by asking probing questions and listening to the answers given to guess what the object is. Here are some recent box objects!

October 2019 - Masterchef Topic: Trip to DR Collin

As part of our topic, we visited DR Collin to find out about how our seafood is caught, prepared and sold. We enjoyed a demonstration of different fish being prepared and found out about the different seafood on sale. We were also shown how and where fish is smoked.

We bought some white and smoked haddock and used it in the afternoon to make Cullen Skink soup. We also took notes to help us with our writing task: writing a detailed set of instructions.

October 2019 - Masterchef topic: Trip to the Hirsel

We visited the Hirsel in Coldstream to find out more about where our food comes from. We took part in three activites - a nature walk, baking bread rolls and an informative talk with Sally about the crops grown at the Hirsel and their journeys from the field to our forks.

September 2019 - Souptastic!

As part of our school topic, Masterchef, we took part in the event, 'Souptastic'. We enjoyed soup making activities, run by professionals, members of the community and The Hirsel, along with the support of many of our parents and carers.

September 2019 - Masterchef!

This week in class, we have been busy talking about where food comes from. We discussed our favourite meals and made pictures of them. The class also looked at categorising foods into food groups and discussed healthy, balanced diets.

We welcomed Sally from the Hirsel at Coldstream to talk to the children about the journey of our food, from farm to fork. She used the example of potatoes and the class created story boards to show the various stages in getting the potatoes to our plates. As well as this, the children all took part in making a healthy, potato salad to take home. We used this fun experience to provide the basis of our functional writing for this week too, recalling what we did to create detailed instructions.

August 2019 - Vision, Values and Aims

P3/4T have been learning about our school Vision, Values and Aims. We have made a large class display to remind ourselves of them. Mr Taylor is awarding house points for those children in the class demonstrating our values: Ready, Respectful and Safe.

Each week, house points are added up in the whole school, with the winning house announced at assembly.

As well as this, in our class we are adding up all of our points together each week to try and reach a class target of 100 points. The class will receive a treat as a reward for reaching their target.

August 2019 - What's in the Box?

Everyday in P3/4T someone takes home our special box. Their job is to bring it back to school the following day with an interesting object hidden inside. We then have fun, developing our listening and talking skills, by asking probing questions and listening to the answers given to guess what the object is.
